Hey artblog readers, artblog’s gallery map goes live tomorrow! This new free monthly listing service is a first for Philadelphia–with maps — including by neighborhood — plus Septa directions to galleries and everything you need for your First Friday rounds and for the rest of the month.
Replacing one of our regular what we want to see this friday posts is the Our Picks map in which we shout out our favorite shows of the month.
Info for Exhibitors
Galleries and other art venues — get your information in now! If you’re wondering how to get your listing on these maps, it’s easy. Just go to the artblog labs link (link is also in the right hand column of the blog’s pages) and click on the submit your listing box and fill out the online form. Your information will be stored in a database and uploaded to the map manually. So you won’t see your listing instantly–it may take a few days to get in there. This manual loading of the map is temporary until we have software to automate.
Although we’ve already done our picks for September, we are extending the deadline for adding your information for September shows for another week. New deadline for submitting September shows is Friday, Sept. 11.
Hold off on submitting October show information until Sept. 12 when we will be collecting information for that month on a new, improved form. Deadline for submitting listings will be the 25th of the month before your show opens.
We’re still in the beta testing phase so bear with us. And let us know if you have questions, concerns, suggestions.

Hi. We do a rotating ad with ArtBlog. In addition, a few weeks ago I sent in to the “labs” for a listing. Someone else sent along a gallery map listing link for the blog too. Is the map and the listing the samething because the form looks the same? I know this is different from our paid ad. Thanks. Diane Podolsky, Twenty-Two Gallery
Hi, Diane, the listing and the ad are indeed two different things. I am unclear when you say “a few weeks ago I sent into the ‘labs’ for a listing.” I think I can safely say the map and the listing are the same thing. I do think Ed also may have sent in a listing for 22 gallery. It’s possible we got two listings from your gallery, but at this point it’s not a problem since we are still inputting the information by hand. Hope that helps.
I’d love to know how you finally automate this & hope that maybe you would share that info with like-minded groups in other venues, like mine, e.g., i.e., Ithaca, NY; I’m sure a group like http://theswitchboard.wordpress.com/ or our local arts council — http://www.artspartner.org — would be very interested. I know I am.
Thanks for considering.
Best,
Ed
What if your listing title is more than 50 characters? I recently submitted a listing with (see below) in the title, and the full title in the description. Will this be corrected when published?
Many thanks,
Darcey
Hi Darcey – thanks for the feedback, and we’re sorry you had trouble! We’re trying to find the right balance between our design and the data as more comes in. We will use the full title you submitted in the description as close as possible, and perhaps we’ll raise the character count too.
Planned for a future release, we’ll be making everything more flexible, and opening up the submissions beyond one month. As a contributor you’ll be able to preview and edit your listing before and anytime after submission, so you can optimize how your data looks on the map, and update it if information changes.
Thanks again, your feedback is what we need to make this great!
Hi Libby and Roberta,
The maps and listings look great and thanks again for the PICK back in September! This continues to be a great resource for all of us who want to know whats going on.
It could be nice for us readers to be able to push a button that indicated the shows we like (similar to the like button in facebook). This could be nice in the blog also … for those of us that are not big comment pushers, but often want to show interest and support.

Hello,
I just uploaded an information about Dalet Gallery current exhibition. Right after that I realised that I could add some more info to the field ’show description’? So I’d like to know how I can edit my listing. Thanks!
Hi, Irene, I am unsure if our tech wiz kids would want you to send along the changes via email or would ask you to fill out another form. So I will forward your note to them and they will respond via email.
