Bang the drum, raise the funds


This is auction/fundraiser season and here’s a sampling of what’s going on starting tonight and over the next few days. Worthy causes all, I can hear those purse strings opening. Do good AND have fun.

TONIGHT, FRIDAY, MAY 19, 5-9 PM, MOORE COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN

Manna’s “A Show of Hands” auction for the AIDS charity that delivers meals to AIDS patients is tonight. There’s art on the walls for the silent auction and then special items (including art) in the live auction. $60 donation includes food and drinks. All of Philadelphia’s art community comes together for this event, now in its 16th year.

SATURDAY, MAY 20, 8-MIDNIGHT

PMA’s third annual Art After Dark event. “BAM! WOW! POP! ART!” Proceeds match a challenge grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and benefit the Museum’s Division of Education. $225. To purchase tickets or for more information, call 215-235-7469.

SUNDAY, MAY 21 NOON-6 PM
STUDIO B Wellness Center will host a benefit Brunch and Wellness Day to Support Northern Liberties’ resident and performance artist Jon Lustig who is being treated for brain cancer. STUDIO B Wellness Center IS at 209 Fairmount Ave. $25 in advance ($30 at the door) — includes brunch and as many complimentary 20 minute wellness treatments as you are interested in. All proceeds from the benefit will go directly towards the support of Jon Lustig. [Note: This information came in to my Weekly mailbox from Heidi Duffey. The cause is worthy. Jon Lustig’s story “My Brain Tumor” is an amazing read.]

4th Annual Benefit for the Center for Emerging Visual Artists at the Union League. Advanced ticket registration required. Call 215-546-7775 for more details. Live music, sale of art, silent auction, food and drinks. $150, $250 and $500.
