Two free days of public viewing of Thomas Eakins’ The Gross Clinic will be offered March 17 and 18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts’ historic building. The painting will go on display starting March 14.
It will be on display along with other Eakins and Eakins-related work reflecting his interest in anatomy and its place in art: two other Eakins paintings in the Academy’s collection, Walt Whitman and Harrison S. Morris; examples of anatomical casts made by Eakins and his students at the Academy; and drawings from the Bregler Collection, assembled by one of Eakins’ students.
The Gross Clinic will remain on view until June 2008, when it will return to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
