52 reasons for Victory

Victory for Tyler

Yo! from Milwaukee. I didn’t have time to post on Victory for Tyler at the Crane before I left and while I can’t post much now I do want you all to get up there and see one helluva painting show. 52 artists were selected from around 200 who applied and the show’s a head spin, from abstract work to pop cartoons to installation and 3-D paintings. Juried by ICA’s Jenelle Porter and hung by Susan Moore (and a gentleman whose name I forget, sorry), the show looks super in the Icebox, and money raised from sales and from selling the donated Victory beer at the opening will help Temple Gallery pay for its awesome exhibition program that we at Artblog are highly enamored of. Who can forget Phil Collins and the two slaps heard around the world? Not I. Empathetic? Awesome show (posts here and here). Victory stays up through the 29th so run up this weekend. If you need an incentive, see my pix at flickr.

Nancy MacDonald, Tyler Alum president, who was up there gallery sitting when I stopped by told me the alums were going to do the Victory shows every other year featuring the various Tyler departments. In the off year they will have a different kind of fundraiser, like creating a multiple to sell from art by a Tyler alum. Lisa Yuskavage, yes, a Tyler alum, has agreed to let a piece of her art be used for the first multiple said MacDonald.
