I was talking with artnet‘s Walter Robinson yesterday and while catching up on this and that I mentioned that Libby and I were doing videos on Artblog now and that people seemed to love them (you do, don’t you?). Robinson said “We’re putting up our first video today.” I wondered if he was going to be the one in front of the camera and he said no and mentioned how he’d actually done that a while ago with his friend Paul H-O when they shot video footage in New York galleries for a local-access cable station. Back then, Robinson said, gallerists chased them away saying “You can’t do that” meaning you can’t take take video footage of the art work (copyright worries maybe?). Nowadays people are so used to revealing themselves for the camera and so accepting of sharing their work and selves with the world that they welcome you in. Artnet’s video is way arty–a scant two minutes of black and white Warholian trippiness in Jeffrey Deitch‘s place with Dan Colen and Dash Snow’s “The Nest.”
