Ah, dinner with a bickering couple—that uncomfortable witnessing of a head-on collision you can’t stop and can’t escape.
Paul Outlaw and Jennifer Catron invite you to their kitchen for beer and cookies and to hear the barbed banter and see the obnoxious behavior of their one-night performance The Honeymooners at Grizzly Grizzly. Less screwball comedy than semi-scripted theater of the absurd—with props, costumes and a full set—this performance isn’t for an audience of wallflowers. Paul will provoke and prod you, maybe even attack you into responding and Jennifer will chat you up and give you cookies. Unlike Jackie Gleason’s Honeymooners ’ episodes, which always had happy endings, this story won’t have a happy ending—it probably won’t have an ending at all. But it will have an interruption in the form of the instrumental-funk band Consider the Source, which plays down the hall from the gallery at 9:30 p.m. where the Honeymooners fighting will continue.
The Honeymooners: Paul Outlaw and Jennifer Catron, opening Fri., May 7, 6pm. Grizzly Grizzly, 319 N. 11th St. 2nd floor
