News

However you may feel about the advent of Amazon Art (hint: it’s either a hallmark of our society’s continued decay or a potentially great platform), Bluestone Fine Art has taken the leap and is now one of the site’s featured galleries, for which they deserve some trendsetter points. Here’s a link to Bluestone on Amazon Art – see for yourself.

The School of Visual Arts  has announced a couple of very big appointments:  Steven Henry Madoff is the chair of a new MA Curatorial Practice Department, and Rhizome founder and artist Mark Tribe is chairing the MFA Fine Arts Department. Madoff and Tribe both taught in the MFA Art Practice Department at SVA before; we are quite excited to see what they do with their new positions.

With recent attention given to Nam June Paik’s Philly installation, it’s welcome news to hear that the Nam June Paik Art Center is coming to Talbot Rice Gallery, University of Edinburgh in honor of Paik’s practice. Transmitted Live, featuring videos, sculptures, photographs and archival materials from the Center’s collections, finds the first Paik exhibition in Scotland coalescing in Edinburgh, the birthplace of electromagnetic theory and television. The exhibition runs August 8-10.

Artist News

Alaina Mabaso, Artblog correspondent on the Fringe Festival, had a HuffPost Live appearance last night at 9pm ET, concerning the terrors of turning 30. She originally pitched the segment to an L.A. host based on her recent blog post about turning thirty; in addition to reading that post, look for her work with us this fall!

This summer’s Surface Design Magazine, titled Body Gazing Through the Eye of a Needle, features Erin Riley in an article by Lois Martin. Her work is held up to those contemporary artist Pinar Yolacan and Louise Bourgeois by the author – quite the compliment.
