Little Berlin member Erin Bernard (of the Philadelphia Public History Truck) is doing a three-month Summer Reading series, made even more summery by its BYOB potluck element. Focusing on Community Arts and Aesthetics, the free series sessions meet at Little Berlin’s Annex space. Everyone’s meant to bring a dish to share and/or a drink of choice, an open mind, and some relevant textual interpretations; all genres and disciplines are welcome. All genres and disciplines are welcome to attend; a small donation is suggested toward the Annex, and RSVP is encouraged. The first session is next Tuesday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m, and the conversation’s going to be about practice.
Save the date: the next BYOBlanket Philly Stake is coming up on Sunday, September 21 at Bartram’s Garden. The organizers promise a glorious afternoon of specially-brewed beer, a seasonal meal and, of course, learning about the brilliant community-strengthening projects that get Stake enthusiasts passionate. More details to come later in the summer.

The 2014 Photo Review Photography Competition has rolled around once again, with the June 30 deadline approaching. Juried by Jennifer Blessing, The Photo Review reproduces accepted entries in its competition issue and on its website, giving winners major exposure;. the prize-winning photographers also earn an exhibition at the photography gallery of The University of the Arts here in Philly. An entry fee of $35 for up to three images and $8 for each additional image entitles all entrants to a copy of the full-color catalogue, plus a $36 subscription, a 20% discount (slightly higher rates apply for non-US subscribers.) Located in Southern France’s off-the-beaten path Marnay sur Seine, camac art centre and Fondation Ténot are offering their annual group of three residency bursaries to one visual artist, one writer and one musician or composer for the 2015 session. Each residency is two months long (dates to be arranged by mutual agreement between the artist and the institution), including board and lodging, private bedroom with a bathroom, and a personal studio. If accepted, artists must provide their own visas and health insurance, plus any travel expenses necessary. To apply, first read all the details in your relevant category (visual, writing, music/composition), then send a completed application form (on camac’s website), with the mention “Fondation Ténot Bursary” directly to camac together with a CV, a recent photograph, a project proposal for the residency period (three to five pages + visuals), two testimonials, and ten images of recent work.

Jennifer Levonian is part of the buffet of artists who make up the fourth installment of the internationally-screening series Stop & Go. Divided into five “courses,” this iteration of the show is organized out of its most recent program, Stop & Go: Made From Scratch. Each artist created animations about crafting, horticulture and food; ROTTEN PUMPKINS is Jennifer’s contribution, advertising quite mysteriously that “you are cordially invited to the dreaded, annual Thanksgiving dinner.”

Michelle Post is holding court at a Tom Wolfe-ian celebration of anarchy – the Bonfire of the Travesties. Exactly what it sounds like, Michelle and her husband are inviting artists to bring their most shameful art disasters to her home in Millville NJ. June 21 at 7 PM, with food and music. There, they’ll be ritually burned, and hopefully appease the deities that prevent us from realizing that we’ve ruined yet another canvas and have no more Blick’s gift cards left! Former Space 1026 members Isaac Tin Wei Lin and Alex Lukas just opened their new Brooklyn show Rusu Moyo (translation: absent design), at Greenpoint Terminal Gallery on the Brooklyn waterfront. It runs until July 5, giving you several weeks to go dive into Isaac’s pulsating calligraphic style and Alex’s labyrinthine illustrations
