Mark Tribe, founder of Rhizome, has devoted large portions of the last three years to an astonishing series of work. Now, “Posse Comitatus,” which Tribe has been creating with Chelsea Knight, has made its final entry, and is currently screening at DiverseWorks in Houston. “Posse Comitatus” examines the sociocultural dynamics of paramilitary groups; research has seen Knight and Tribe spending time with an upstate New York militia group and were – surprisingly, perhaps – allowed to record their activities, from the mundane interactions of everyday life to live fire field training exercises. This is a disturbingly wonderful production, so don’t pass up the chance to learn more about it and see it in action.

Congratulations to Dona Nelson, and to the Museum of Fine Art Boston on their excellent effort and good taste – Nelson’s painting String Beings was recently acquired by the museum.

The 2015 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project in Taiwan is calling for entries, inviting artists from all countries. They’re asking for proposals for a large-scale site-specific outdoor environmental sculpture installation, to be created during a 25-day residency in Cheng Long, a small coastal village in southwest Taiwan, working with elementary school students, residents and volunteers. The theme for 2015 is “Fragile – Handle with Care.”The 6 selected artists receive an artist’s fee of US $2,000, airfare, accommodations and meals, and the residency lasts from April 9 – May 4, 2015. The deadline for entries is January 16, 2015.
