2015 marks an even 15 years since the Schuylkill Center began its one-of-a-kind environmental art program. Their upcoming show, with artist Mary Mattingly presenting the Richard L. James Lecture on environmental art, takes a look at Mattingly’s WetLand installation (a boat-based ecosystem!), which was a huge success at the 2014 Fringe Festival. Following the lecture and panel (which includes Mary Salvante, Maya van Rossum, and Bethany Wiggin), a reception allows visitors to check out the newest show at the Center, as well as celebrate their 15th anniversary. The event is January 28, from 7:00 pm– 8:30 pm.

via Artnews – After years as a veteran arts correspondent at the New York Times, Carol Vogel has announced that she’s resigning. Her weekly column Inside Art, while widely read in the art world, drew controversy recently when it was alleged that Vogel plagiarized from Wikipedia. The incident was addressed by an editor’s note and an internal investigation, both of which concluded that this was a one-off incident and not a firing offense.

PAFA just got news that they’ve won a one million dollar gift from The Maguire Foundation! This major donation, the biggest from a single source in PAFA’s history, creates the James J. & Frances M. Maguire Scholarship for Artistic Excellence, a full-tuition scholarship for 11 Certificate/BFA students entering PAFA between 2015 and 2018.

via Deborah Kruger – The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer’s Residency Program, located in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico, is calling for proposals for its four live/work spaces. This area is a particularly rich and exciting prospect for artists – not only are residents close by natural beauty, but Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, a city replete with museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies. The application deadline for summer 2015 is February 15. Spaces rent for $200 – $800 a month depending on the length of your stay, and you’ll receive a Cress sample kiln, 33″ floor loom, and professional easel. The Arts + Business Council is partnering with the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA) to promote an Open Call for artists to be part of a permanent display in the newly expanded PA Convention Center. Pretty much any media is accepted, excluding performance art, and the subject matter need not be of Pennsylvania or its landscapes. The deadline for artist submissions is Monday, March 2, 2015; to qualify, artists must have their primary residence in Pennsylvania at the time their work is purchased or commissioned. Applications may be submitted individually or in collaboration with other artists. Only electronic applications submitted through Slideroom are accepted, and late submissions are not considered. The subject line of the email must read: “PCCA Open Call for Artwork.”

West Collection-selected artist Larissa Bates is part of a group show at The Castle Gallery at The College of New Rochelle. “Not Really”: Fictive Narratives in Contemporary Art runs from Tuesday, January 27, through Sunday, April 19, with an opening reception on Thursday, February 5, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a closing reception to be held Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Josette Urso and Peter Schroth are getting a fantastic Italian adventure in as they prepare for the Amalfi Music and Arts Festival in Maiori, Italy to jointly conduct an outdoor painting workshop. Landscape: The Quick Study Session III runs from July 14 – 26, 2015. As if the plein-air was not enough of an enticement, the festival features nightly piano performances in places like museums, observatories and churches, plus side trips to local points of interest such as Pompeii, Capri and other Amalfi coast towns.
