Dear Artblog Friends and Readers,
It is with bittersweet feelings that I share the news that, after eighteen months with Artblog, Imani Roach will be leaving us. Imani will focus on completing her PhD dissertation (on the first generation of black South African photojournalists working under Apartheid and the larger history of photography in Africa). This is a great move for Imani, and promises to fulfill her passion to educate and steer conversations about art by artists of color. The move will also put her on a career path to an academic teaching position in Philadelphia. Since Imani loves teaching and interacting with students and others in her field, this step is perfect for her.
Imani has been a wonderful team member at Artblog as well as a valued editor and brilliant writer. Her passion for art and for working with our writing team has created good will on Artblog and good will for Artblog in the community. Imani’s creativity and love of Artblog, of writing, of people, was apparent from the day she started. Her unwavering passion for the voices of minority artists, artists of color and LGBTQ artists complemented Artblog’s commitment and pushed it to the next level. Around the office, we will miss her cheerfulness and collaborative team spirit. Happily, Imani will stay in the Artblog family, as Advisor and Emeritus Managing Editor.
Please join me in thanking Imani for her wonderful contributions to Artblog and wishing her all the best with her important next step. If you wish to send Imani a note of appreciation, please email her at hello@theartblog.org.
