This is the sixth year for this show with a track record of discovering new talent and placing it in an interesting context. William Pym left for New York and passed the baton to Amy Adams so this may be a different kind of show but Amy has been running Vox so we have great expectations!

The Schuylkill Center has a call out for designers, architects, artists and even students to design small-scale buildings (semi-permanent, functional woodland shelters) for the exhibit Gimme Shelter next Spring. There’s a $5,500 stipend for each team and 6 teams will be commissioned. Deadline for proposals is Nov. 21 and the show opens in May, 2009. There’s some great people on the jury — like us for example. But really, we’re in the heady company of Laurie D. Olin, Olin Partnership, Jeanne Jaffe, Professor and Chair of Fine Arts, University of the Arts, Mark Hughes, Philadelphia’s new Director of Sustainability and William W. Braham, PhD FAIA, Department of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania!

PMA ART FUTURES RESIDENCIES IN PHILLY HIGH SCHOOLS
From Tish Ingersoll at the Philadelphia Museum of Art:
I write, to invite you to apply for an artist’s residency, which will take place in Philadelphia public and parochial high schools this winter/spring. Ten artists will be selected to work with high school art teachers to design a project for their students. The project is called Art Futures, and is a joint effort of the School District of Philadelphia, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Schools, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The goals of the project are to strengthen art programs at the high school level, to give art teachers and students the opportunity to work with professional artists, and to make educational use of the collections in the Philadelphia Museum of Art….
The core of the project will be a ten, 30-hour artist’s residency in Philadelphia public, parochial high schools.
Each resident artist will be paid $1,800 for the following commitments:
30 hours of contact time with students @ $50/hour
5 hours of prep time out of the classroom @ $40/hour
2 meetings, 2.5 hours each @$50/hour
