Park Towne Place is currently undergoing a full redevelopment program to create a revitalized property and once again be among the premier rental communities in Center City Philadelphia. This four tower rental property is located in the heart of the of Philadelphia’s Parkway Museums District. Built originally in 1957, the historic apartment complex is positioned across the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from some of the city’s most renowned art institutions. Park Towne Place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the first mid-century modern multi-family residential complex in the Commonwealth to achieve this designation.
The focus of the redevelopment effort is not only on improving the physical aspects of the property, but also to have Park Towne be fully integrated with the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and its thriving cultural institutions. A goal of the property is to have an ongoing art program, including both rotational and purchased pieces for the permanent collection. The owner, Aimco, will be purchasing a collection of original artwork to be publicly displayed on site and within the buildings’ common areas. A variety of media types are eligible for submission, including but not limited to: carving, fiber art, glass art, illustration, ink, metalworks, mixed media, mosaic, painting, pencil, photography, pottery, printmaking and sculpture. The permanent collection will include installations both on the interior and exterior site locations.

In addition to the permanent art collection, the Site and Tower lobbies will incorporate rotating exhibitions throughout the year. The Tower lobbies will receive new lighting, gallery walls and sculpture displays allowing for premier exhibit space along The Parkway. The site has specific focal points within the landscape planned to receive both permanent and rotational sculptures. Public art events will occur for the unveiling of new exhibits.
The amenity spaces in the Towne Center will include a series of community spaces for art programs and events. There will be a Screening room designed for lectures and exhibition previews, with an adjacent Community Pub perfect for opening parties. An Art Studio will be located within the Towne Center, providing a flexible open work space for the residents with lockers, work benches and art storage area. The front space of the Art Studio will provide a gallery for resident art display facing the Towne Center’s Mainstreet corridor.
