Inspired by the Blue Note jazz club, a legendary performance venue at 15th and Ridge where black luminaries of the 1950s and 60s once held court, Black Quantum Futurism (artists Camae Ayewa and Rasheedah Phillips) present the Blue Note Salon, a panel discussion and community forum on art, place and social change. Part of a two-week exhibition at Icebox Project Space entitled, Community Futurisms: Time & Memory in North Philly 002 – Black Space Agency, the panel is moderated by Faye Anderson of All That Philly Jazz and features local artist-activists Josh Graupera, Tieshka K. Smith, Mike O’Bryan, and Stormy Kelsey. The panel is immediately followed by a lively group discussion about the power and limitations of art in the face of perpetual state violence and racist housing practices.
