Inspired by the Blue Note jazz club, a legendary performance venue at 15th and Ridge where black luminaries of the 1950s and 60s once held court, Black Quantum Futurism (artists Camae Ayewa and Rasheedah Phillips) present the Blue Note Salon, a panel discussion and community forum on art, place and social change. Part of a two-week exhibition at Icebox Project Space entitled, Community Futurisms: Time & Memory in North Philly 002 – Black Space Agency, the panel is moderated by Faye Anderson of All That Philly Jazz and features local artist-activists Josh Graupera, Tieshka K. Smith, Mike O’Bryan, and Stormy Kelsey. The panel is immediately followed by a lively group discussion about the power and limitations of art in the face of perpetual state violence and racist housing practices. What do the Black Panthers and our own Stadium Stompers have in common? Listen to find out. The Blue Note Salon was recorded on April 21st, 2018 at the Icebox Project Space. Please note that the audio during the Q&A is challenging due to the mic setup, but we felt that the conversation was important and should be included here. The podcast is 1 hour 32 minutes long; the Q&A begins at 53:30.
