In this 6-panel comic from the Socialist Grocery series by Oli Knowles, Sebastian has an odd customer interaction at checkout.
In the top left panel, Sebastian is getting ready to bag groceries for a customer. Sebastian is looking at the customer, who says “Oh, here, I brought my own bags.” The customer hands Sebastian a reusable bag.
In the top right panel, Sebastian replies “Oh, thanks so much. I’ll use this then…” Sebastian holds up the bag and sees the phrase “The grind never stops” printed on it, along with pair of sunglasses.
In the middle left panel, Sebastian comments, “…I see this bag has to do with ‘the grind.'” Their eyes glance over the bag, which is covering their face.
In the middle right panel, the customer explains, “Oh yeah, the grind never stops.” They start gesturing with a serious expression. “I’m grinding all day. Checking my planner, brushing my teeth…”
In the bottom left panel, the customer continues “… buying groceries! It never stops.” Now their mouth and eyes are wide open, and their freckled face fills the frame with intensity.
In the bottom right panel, Sebastian is in the break room with a coworker. Sebastian, sitting with a steaming drink, asks, “Did the definition of ‘the grind’ change?” Their coworker sitting next to them with a cup of coffee considers, “No, it’s just that the grind is subjective, you know?”
