Lecture today by Amy Sherald, visiting artist at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Dindga McCannon’s Revolutionary Sister and a good Mural Arts Program opportunity for fiber artists

We are excited for today’s lecture at PAFA by portrait painter, Amy Sherald, whose recently completed portrait of former First Lady Michelle Obama was unveiled with much fanfare and acclaim at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. We are planning our trip, but until then we’ll see you at PAFA to hear the artist speak about her work. Also, news about Philadelphia’s Dindga McCannon’s and her fabulous “Revolutionary Sister.” Plus a good opportunity with Mural Arts.

Sad news, Al Gury’s catastrophic loss of home and animals in fire, deaths of Vinson Houston and Paula Winokur, Plus good opportunity with Fairmount Park Conservancy for West Park Fest

February is a cruel month. We’ve lost two artists, and one artist lost his home, animals and art in a fire. We are so very sorry to report these losses. But, we end on a note of opportunity, with a call for proposals by Fairmount Park Conservancy.

Memorial service for A.M. Weaver this Saturday, Jan. 27, and a great-sounding exhibition on immigration at Penn State Abington curated by John Thompson and Daniel Oliva

A memorial service is scheduled for A.M. Weaver, our late friend, who contributed so much to artists and the arts in Philadelphia. Also, John Thompson and Daniel Oliva organized a show on the important topic of immigration, and the images look terrific.
