Rosine 2.0 in practice, workshops and installations at the Icebox, Delaware Art Museum shows prints from Romo Collection, Vox Populi 18th Annual Juried Exhibition seeks applicants, plus more exhibitions and events

Hi, this week we see Vox Populi hosting Rosine 2.0 in Practice, a day of workshops and installations. Tools of the Trade conference connecting artisans and business resources in Philly is taking place at the end of March. For exhibitions, the Delaware Art Museum exhibits the unique heritage, history, and experience of Mexican Americans and Latinos with prints from the Romo Collection. Partners and Son soon to open Both/And by Anuj Shrestha. Pentimenti Gallery presents Raymond Saá and Kate Bonner + Anna Wehrwein Endless Illusions. Fjord Gallery announces new solo exhibition by Petra Floyd. Opportunities appear in the form of Vox Populi soon accepting applications for their 18th Annual Juried Exhibitions. Poems sparked by Roxana Perez-Mendez’s art at Taller Puertorriqueño

Workshop participants shared their visions, memories, thoughts about Puerto Rico in poems written in response to Roxana Perez-Mendez’s complex and beautiful art. Perez-Mendez is Puerto Rican and her video installations at Taller Puertorriqueño embody the artist’s own fears and hopes for the island. The show closed March 25.

Talks at UPenn, Moore, New Boon(e) will make you feel better; support your local small arts groups; try out the good Opportunities!

We are all looking for conversations that move the discussion forward. There are some good ones coming up that you might want to partake of. And, strengthening our local art scene is more important than ever. Reduced funding for the arts is coming. The new climate of intolerance may quash advances in diversity and experimentation in the arts. Small institutions are more at risk since they live at the margin of the larger art world. At this “giving” time of year, make a donation to your favorite small arts institution or group.

We’re not handing out gold stars or laurel wreaths in this Challenge, but we do believe in the value of prizes to reward excellence. Prizes for excellence encourage and support writers in the community and by extension, the arts in Philadelphia. Publication of the writers’ works brings new voices to the public realm, spreads the arts to a wider audience and can be a springboard to writing opportunities for winners.
